COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT
Quarterback Central | Teams | Players
Utah starting quarterback Cam Rising’s (Stats) availability for Week 1 will come down to the wire, head coach Kyle Whittingham said at Pac-12 Media Days. Rising is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the Rose Bowl, and the Utes have a tough season opener against Florida on Aug. 31. Brandon Rose (Stats) is the favorite among the quarterbacks behind Rising with Nate Johnson (Stats) and Bryson Barnes (Stats) pushing him during training camp.
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said he has a 10-day plan to trim the three-man quarterback competition down to two during SEC Media Days. Payton Thorne (Stats) is the likely frontrunner at this point with Robby Ashford (Stats) and Holden Geriner (Stats) as the other two challengers. Thorne started 26 games at Michigan State before joining the Tigers this offseason. Ashford became Auburn’s starting quarterback last season, while Geriner appeared in one game as a true freshman in 2022.
Georgia will not rush its decision to name a starting quarterback, head coach Kirby Smart said during SEC Media Days. Carson Beck (Stats) is believed to be the favorite in this quarterback battle and is highly likely to be the guy Week 1. He created a bit of separation between him and Brock Vandagriff (Stats) with 2022 4-star QB Gunner Stockton (Stats) also in the mix.
