THE QB REPORT
Quarterback Central | Teams | Players
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian named Maalik Murphy (Stats) the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against BYU. The Longhorns will play their first game without Quinn Ewers (Stats), who is out indefinitely with an AC joint sprain on his throwing shoulder. Sarkisian said there has not been a decision made whether to play true freshman Arch Manning (Stats), who has yet to make his college football debut.
Maryland will host in-state 2025 4-star QB Malik Washington for next weekend’s game against Penn State, according to Inside The Black and Gold. Head coach Mike Locksley and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis watched his high school game last Friday, and Washington is expected to make his third game day trip to see the Terrapins after watching them play Charlotte and Virginia this fall.
Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (Stats) is no longer listed on the injury report after being a full participant during Wednesday’s practice for the first time this season. He was put on the reserve/designated to return list last week, meaning the franchise has 21 days to elevate him to the 53-man roster. Murray could return to game action on Sunday against the Ravens for the first time since suffering a torn ACL last December. If not, Joshua Dobbs (Stats) will be the primary quarterback once again.

Virginia Tech QB Grant Wells (Stats) missed the last five games with an ankle injury, and it’s unclear if he will be available for Thursday night vs. Syracuse. During the bye week, head coach Brent Pry said Wells is close to 75% but not mobile enough to make plays with his feet. Wells opened the season as the starter before going down with the injury, and head coach Brent Pry has previously said this is Kyron Drones’ (Stats) job moving forward.
