COLLEGE FOOTBALL QB REPORT
Quarterback Central | Teams | Players
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said QB Kyle McCord (Stats) will start Saturday’s season opener against Indiana, though Devin Brown (Stats) will play, according to The Dispatch’s Bill Rabinowitz. One of the major remaining starting quarterback battles has been decided for Week 1, but this was a very close race throughout training camp. It’ll be interesting to see how short McCord’s leash might be if he struggles at any point this season with the potential of Brown taking over.
Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher announced Conner Weigman (Stats) is the starting quarterback, according to TexAgs. Weigman has long been considered the favorite over his competitor Max Johnson (Stats), but Weigman will be the guy when the Aggies open their season against New Mexico on Saturday. Weigman played in five games as a true freshman in 2022 and has three years of eligibility remaining with a redshirt still available.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said a starting quarterback decision has yet to be made, according to Inside The Rebels’ Jared Redding. Returning starter Jaxson Dart (Stats) received the majority of snaps with the first-team offense during fall camp over Spencer Sanders (Stats). Walker Howard (Stats) has been said to be in the mix, but this has always felt like a two-man race. The Rebels are opening the season against Mercer on Saturday, so both quarterbacks may see the field regardless of who gets the starting nod.
DEPTH CHART & INJURY REPORT
Week 1 College football QB depth charts & injuries
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said QB Tyler Van Dyke (Stats) has been practicing at full speed, according to The Miami Hurricane’s Luke Chaney. This is following a report over the weekend that said there’s a 50/50 chance he plays in Friday’s season opener against Miami (OH) with a hand injury. It seems unlikely Cristobal would lie about Van Dyke’s availability to get an advantage as 17-point home favorites, but Jacurri Brown (Stats) would likely be the next option.
