Alabama adds Notre Dame transfer QB Tyler Buchner
SCOOP: Tyler Buchner
Less than 48 hours after Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner (Stats) entered the transfer portal, he is committed to Alabama to rejoin former Fighting Irish offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who left for Alabama in February. Neither Ty Simpson (Stats) or Jalen Milroe (Stats) separated himself over the other this spring, and there’s a good chance the Crimson Tide just found their Week 1 starting quarterback. This also means Wake Forest transfer Sam Hartman (Stats) officially won the Fighting Irish QB1 spot if you believed head coach Marcus Freeman this was a real competition.
Louisville QB Khalib Johnson enters transfer portal
SCOOP: Khalib Johnson
Khalib Johnson (Stats) received plenty of FBS interest out of high school as a 2022 3-star prospect from Alabama before signing with Louisville. Coaching changes lead to plenty of roster turnover in the transfer portal era, and there should be plenty of schools interested in Johnson. He redshirt as a true freshman last fall with four years of eligibility remaining.
California lands NC State QB Ben Finley
SCOOP: Ben Finley
California offensive coordinator Jake Spavital made it clear the Golden Bears would be active in the transfer portal market for a quarterback this spring with very little quarterback depth. Fernando Mendoza (Stats) and TCU transfer Sam Jackson V (Stats) were the only scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, so it was obvious Cal needed to make a move. Ben Finley (Stats) started the last two games of 2022 with NC State dealing with multiple QB injuries, and he has three years of eligibility remaining.

South Carolina QB Braden Davis enters transfer portal
SCOOP: The Athletic’s Max Olson
Braden Davis (Stats) did not play a snap as a true freshman in 2022 and will have four years of eligibility remaining at his next stop. The former 3-star prospect from Delaware had a ton of recruiting interest from the top programs in the country before ultimately landing at South Carolina. Davis was outside the top two of the Gamecocks depth chart this spring as he looks for a new program.
