College football QB news of the day

Lots of quarterbacks entered the transfer portal yesterday as spring practices close up throughout the country. While there weren’t a ton of big names, a former 5-star QB prospect will look for his third school. With a ton of practices ongoing with another loaded spring game Saturday coming, expect more quarterbacks to hit the portal daily over the next couple weeks.

UNLV QB Harrison Bailey enters transfer portal

Harrison Bailey (Stats) wasn’t going to land a starting role at UNLV in 2023 with Doug Brumfield (Stats) returning as QB1. The former 5-star prospect spent two years at Tennessee before playing one season with the Rebels. Bailey will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next school, and Cameron Friel (Stats) is next in line behind Brumfield heading into the fall.

2025 4-star QB Akili Smith Jr. will see Florida, Oregon

Akili Smith Jr. is coming off recent visits to in-state schools California and San Diego State, and he’s headed to Florida this weekend. The Gators already have 2025 4-star QB Austin Simmons committed, but there are plenty of rumors about him potentially reclassifying to 2024 or even 2023. Smith will also see Oregon for the spring game on April 29, according to the report as the Ducks don’t have a 2024 or 2025 quarterback committed.

Arizona State QB Bennett Meredith enters transfer portal
SCOOP: Bennett Meredith
Bennett Meredith (Stats) didn’t play a snap as a true freshman in 2022 and will have four years of eligibility remaining at his next school. Meredith was a 3-star prospect from Alabama with a handful of FBS offers including a few from the Power 5 level. The path to playing time became more difficult when Arizona State landed Drew Pyne (Stats) from the transfer portal and 2023 4-star Jaden Rashada (Stats) along with returner Trenton Bourguet (Stats).

Coastal Carolina QB Dontrell Jackson Jr. enters transfer portal

Dontrell Jackson Jr. was a 2022 3-star prospect from Illinois when he signed with Coastal Carolina. Jackson didn’t see the field as a true freshman last fall and will have four years of eligibility remaining. He received a handful of offers from Group of 5 programs, so there should be interest.
