Welcome to conference championship Saturday, kids. Today’s edition will take a look at the latest on Florida State quarterback Tate Rodemaker, who is very questionable for Saturday’s ACC Championship. Will the undefeated Seminoles be relying on a true freshman with a College Football Playoff spot on the line? It’s the biggest question of today’s eight-game title slate.
The transfer portal announcements have slowed throughout the week with Dante Moore and Cameron Ward as the biggest late-week entries. If you want some numbers, more than 750 quarterbacks were on FBS rosters at the start of the 2023 season, and the latest update shows 73 entered or are expected to enter the transfer portal when it officially opens on Monday. The only QB to make a commitment so far is Max Johnson to North Carolina.

TRANSFER PORTAL REPORT
UCLA quarterback Dante Moore (Stats) will enter the transfer portal after one season with the Bruins, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Moore was a 5-star prospect from the 2023 recruiting class and played nine games as a true freshman with a few starts. If there are no hard feeling with Oregon, it could be a contender for Moore, who decommitted from the Ducks right before the Early Signing Period. Any talented quarterback prospect could be linked to Michigan State because it does not have a scholarship quarterback on the roster right now, and Moore is a Michigan native. Ethan Garbers (Stats) took over as the Bruins’ starter with Collin Schlee (Stats) also getting plenty of work in his first year at UCLA. Both are expected to be back with the Bruins in 2024 at this point.
Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward (Stats) announced he will enter the transfer portal but will still keep his options open when it comes to the 2024 NFL Draft. He was a two-year starter with the Cougars after developing into a star at Incarnate Word with one season of eligibility left to play. John Mateer (Stats) operated as the backup all season and rotated in with his regular role as a rushing threat. He or Jaxon Potter (Stats) are likely the top candidates on the roster to start in 2024. Emmett Brown (Stats) also announced he’ll enter the portal after playing one game over two seasons at Washington State with three years of eligibility remaining.
NC State will make a home visit to see Coastal Carolina transfer quarterback Grayson McCall (Stats) this weekend, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. McCall was a three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year for the Chanticleers but missed the final month of the season with a head injury. He has one year of eligibility remaining, and the Wolfpack need plenty of help at QB. Brennan Armstrong (Stats) is out of eligibility, and MJ Morris (Stats) announced he’ll be in the transfer portal. McCall would be a major upgrade to this quarterback room with a significant edge in experience over walk-on Ethan Rhodes (Stats) and true freshman Lex Thomas (Stats).
