Since I will not be publishing anything on Christmas Day, I thought I’d pop in and send you a few updates from the weekend before diving into some holiday cheer.
Today’s newsletter highlights plenty of FBS and FCS transfer portal and recruiting information, and you’ll be getting updated depth charts on Tuesday. I’m still working through quarterback signings from the Early Signing Period, so those will be sprinkled in over the next week.

MY TOP THREE
Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa (Stats) opted out of Saturday’s Music City Bowl vs. Auburn and could enter the transfer portal, head coach Mike Locksley said. I’m not sure what case Tagovailoa has for another year of eligibility considering he already took advantage of the extra COVID year and played in more than four games in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. If he’s allowed to play college football again, he’d immediately be one of the top transfer QBs on the market as a three-year starter. Scoop: The Vinny & Haynie Show
Multi-time transfers who enter the portal this fall will be eligible to play at their new school next season without a waiver. The fall transfer portal window closes Jan. 2, and it’s unclear if multi-time transfers who leave after that date will be immediately eligible to play in 2024 as well. Scoop: Ross Dellenger
Texas transfer QB Maalik Murphy (Stats) committed to Duke where he’ll be the favorite to start over Henry Belin IV (Stats) and Grayson Loftis (Stats) with three years of eligibility left. Murphy played seven games behind Quinn Ewers (Stats) this fall. Scoop: Maalik Murphy

TRANSFER PORTAL
Michigan State commit Aidan Chiles (Stats) tweeted, “Go Green” after rumors of USC getting in the mix for the former Oregon State quarterback. The Trojans are suddenly thin at QB without Caleb Williams (Stats) and Malachi Nelson (Stats), and head coach Lincoln Riley reached out to Chiles this weekend. Chiles has three years left and will get his first shot as a starting QB with the Spartans. Scoops: Aidan Chiles, Scott Schrader
