With the first college football season in the books, here’s your first look at some Week 2 QB info. The only new updates on this post are games played, starts and snap counts for the season. You’ll see some outdated pre-Week 1 info from Saturday morning, but everything will be updated tomorrow.

QB Room Notebook - Week 1

SEC

Alabama ➡️ Dylan Lonergan and Austin Mack are competing for the No. 3 spot, according to Tuscaloosa News’ Anna Snyder. Lonergan played one game last season, and Mack did not appear in a game with Washington. Jalen Milroe is a returning starter after taking over the role early in the 2023 season.

Arkansas ➡️ Taylen Green is the starter, followed by Malachi Singleton, true freshman KJ Jackson and Blake Boda. Green started the first nine games with Boise State in 2023 before losing his starting spot but returned to QB1 after a season-ending injury to Maddux Madsen. Singleton did not appear in a game last season, and Boda played three as a reserve with Coastal Carolina.

Auburn ➡️ Payton Thorne is the starter, followed by Hank Brown, Holden Geriner and true freshman Walker White. Thorne played every game in 2023, and HC Hugh Freeze announced Brown beat out Geriner to be the backup last week after making his debut in the 2023 bowl game. Geriner played five games as a reserve last season.

Georgia ➡️ HC Kirby Smart declined to name the backup, according to Athens Banner-Herald’s Marc Weiszer. Gunner Stockton was the clear option coming out of spring, but the Bulldogs added Jaden Rashada since then. Stockton played four games as a reserve in 2023, and Rashada opened last season as the Arizona State starter before an injury shut him down till the regular season finale and started three games.

Kentucky ➡️ Gavin Wimsatt and true freshman Cutter Boley are co-backups to Brock Vandagriff. Wimsatt started all 13 games with Rutgers last season.

LSU ➡️ The backup spot is still very much a competition that’s up in the air, according to Geaux 247’s Glen West. This is a battle between Rickie Collins and AJ Swann, and I’ll give the edge to Collins based on practice reports. Collins played one game as a reserve in 2023, and Swann started the first five games with Vanderbilt last season before missing time with an elbow injury and returned for the regular season finale.

Mississippi State ➡️ Chris Parson and true freshman Michael Van Buren are co-backups behind Blake Shapen. Parson played two games in 2023 and started one when Will Rogers was out with an injury.

Missouri ➡️ Brady Cook is the starter, followed by Drew Pyne. Cook started all 13 games last season, and Pyne played two games with one start with Arizona State in 2023, battling multiple injuries. Pyne was brought in after projected backup Sam Horn was ruled out for the season in February recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Oklahoma ➡️ True freshman Michael Hawkins is listed as the backup to Jackson Arnold over Casey Thompson. Thompson was fully cleared this summer after a season-ending torn ACL and MCL with FAU in 2023.

Ole Miss ➡️ HC Lane Kiffin said the backup competition between Walker Howard and Austin Simmons is still ongoing, according to Mississippi Clarion Ledger’s David Eckert. Also, Jett Miller is still not listed on the roster during game week, so I removed him from this page. Howard played two games as a reserve in 2023, while Simmons did not play a snap but is recovered from spraining his UCL in April with the baseball team. Miller has not appeared in a college football game.

South Carolina ➡️ LaNorris Sellers is listed as the starter with Robby Ashford as the backup. Sellers played three games as a reserve in 2023, and Ashford played 10 games with Auburn last season. Ashford is a rushing threat and previously said there will be times when both are on the field.

Tennessee ➡️ Nico Iamaleava is listed as the starter, followed by Gaston Moore and true freshman Jake Merklinger. Iamaleava played five games in 2023 and started the bowl game after Joe Milton opted out, while Moore played four games as a reserve last season.

Texas A&M ➡️ Jaylen Henderson and Marcel Reed are listed as co-backups behind Conner Weigman. Reed seems to be the top option of the two after playing three games as a reserve in 2023. Henderson played five games and started four after injuries to Weigman and Max Johnson but exited the bowl game, which resulted in him undergoing surgery on his non-throwing arm in December.

Vanderbilt ➡️ Diego Pavia and Nate Johnson are co-starters, followed by Drew Dickey and Blaze Berlowitz. Pavia started all 15 games with New Mexico State in 2023, though Johnson could certainly hold a role as a rushing threat, which he did at Utah where he played eight games with three starts last season. Dickey appeared in one game in 2023, and so did Berlowitz with New Mexico State.

Big Ten

Indiana ➡️ HC Curt Cignetti said Kurtis Rourke separated himself significantly in Monday’s scrimmage, according to the team site’s Pete DiPrimio. It would be shocking if anybody starts the season opener other than Rourke, who started all 11 games he was healthy for with Ohio in 2023.

Iowa ➡️ Cade McNamara is the starter, followed by Brendan Sullivan and Marco Lainez. Sullivan had been pushing for the QB1 spot, but it appears McNamara was able to hold on. McNamara started the first five games of last year before a season-ending torn ACL on Sept. 30, 2023. Sullivan played seven games with four starts for Northwestern last season and committed to Iowa in May. Lainez played one game in 2023.

Maryland ➡️ Billy Edwards Jr. is the favorite to start over MJ Morris, according to Inside MD Sports’ Jeff Ermann. According to the report, Cam Edge is not far behind Morris, and they could be listed as co-backups on the depth chart. Edwards played eight games in 2023 with a bowl start after Taulia Tagovailoa opted out. Morris took over for Brennan Armstrong as the starter with NC State in 2023 but shut down his season after four starts to use a redshirt year. Edge played two games as a reserve in 2023.

Michigan ➡️ HC Sherrone Moore said the coaching staff is close to a decision and confirmed Alex Orji and Davis Warren are the top options, according to Maize N’ Brew’s Von Lozon. Over the last few days, there were reports of Orji expected to start, and Jack Tuttle is working through an elbow injury. Orji and Tuttle played six games in reserve roles in 2023, while Warren appeared in three last season.

Minnesota ➡️ True freshman Drake Lindsey seems to have a stranglehold on the backup role over Dylan Wittke, according to SI’s Tony Liebert. Wittke did not appear in a game with Virginia Tech and committed to Minnesota in April.

Nebraska ➡️ True freshman Dylan Raiola was named the starter on the team Twitter account. Raiola has been the favorite all offseason over Heinrich Haarberg and true freshman Daniel Kaelin. Haarberg played 10 games and took over the starting role after Jeff Sims’ injury in 2023 with eight starts until his ankle injury. Haarberg could have a role on offense outside of quarterback. Raiola is listed as the starter with Haarberg as the backup ahead of Kaelin on the team depth chart.

Northwestern ➡️ HC David Braun said he won’t announce a starter until game day, according to Inside NU’s Ethan Segall. This is likely down to Mike Wright and Jack Lausch with Ryan Hilinski potentially in the mix. Wright played 12 games with Mississippi State in 2023 and started three after a Will Rogers injury. Lausch played 10 games as a reserve last season.

Ohio State ➡️ HC Ryan Day named Will Howard the starter over Devin Brown. Howard started all 12 regular season games with Kansas State in 2023. Brown played six games as a reserve while battling injuries and started the bowl game when Kyle McCord opted out.

Penn State ➡️ HC James Franklin said that the team expects Jaxon Smolik to be back at some point this season, according to Black Shoe Diaries. Smolik is working through an unspecified injury that occurred in March, and he’d be in competition for the third-string spot.

Purdue ➡️ Hudson Card is listed as the starter, followed by Ryan Browne and true freshman Marco Davila. Card started all 11 games he was healthy enough to play in 2023, and Browne started one game when Card was out with injury.

Rutgers ➡️ HC Greg Schiano named Ajani Sheppard the backup, according to On The Banks’ Greg Patutu. He played one game as a reserve in 2023, and a team source had told me he was competing with true freshman AJ Surace.

UCLA ➡️ Justyn Martin is the backup to Ethan Garbers. Martin was the favorite for the backup role during camp after playing two games as a reserve last season. Garbers played eight games at QB with six starts in 2023.

USC ➡️ Miller Moss is the starter, followed by Jayden Maiava and Jake Jensen. Moss played five games last season and started the bowl game when Caleb Williams opted out. Maiava played all 14 games with UNLV in 2023 and took over as the starter over Doug Brumfield for the final 11 matchups. Jensen appeared in one game as a reserve last season.

Washington ➡️ Will Rogers is the starter, followed by true freshman Demond Williams Jr. Rogers started all eight games he was healthy enough to play with Mississippi State in 2023, and a report from last week said Williams could push him for snaps.

Wisconsin ➡️ Tyler Van Dyke is the starter, followed by Braedyn Locke. Van Dyke was named the starter two weeks ago after playing 11 games with Miami in 2023 and started 10 but was replaced by Emory Williams, who suffered an injury in his first start, leading to Van Dyke finishing the year as the starter. Locke played five games in 2023 and started three when Tanner Mordecai was out with an injury.

ACC

Boston College ➡️ Thomas Castellanos is the starter, followed by Jacobe Robinson and true freshman Johnathan Montague Jr. Castellanos took over as the starter over Emmett Morehead in Week 2 and played all 13 games with 12 starts in 2023. Robinson did not play last season.

Cal ➡️ Fernando Mendoza and Chandler Rogers are co-starters, followed by CJ Harris. Mendoza played eight games and started the final seven over Sam Jackson and Ben Finley in 2023. Rogers played all 12 games with North Texas in 2023 and took over as the starter over Stone Earle for the final 10. Harris played two games with one start for Ohio in 2023 due to Kurtis Rourke’s injury but suffered a season-ending medical emergency that he’s since been cleared from.

Duke ➡️ Grayson Loftis and Henry Belin IV are co-backups behind Maalik Murphy. Loftis started the final five games last season after injuries to Riley Leonard and Belin, and he played in eight games. Belin played four games in 2023 with one start due to an injury to Leonard and missed time with injuries.

Georgia Tech ➡️ Haynes King is the starter, followed by Zach Pyron. Pyron played one snap on a two-point conversion in the Week 0 win over Florida State.

Florida State ➡️ DJ Uiagalelei is the starter, followed by Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek. Uiagalelei played every snap in the Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech.

Louisville ➡️ Pierce Clarkson has a hold on the backup role ahead of Harrison Bailey, according to SI’s Matthew McGavic. Both appeared in one game last season and are behind Tyler Shough.

Miami ➡️ Emory Williams would be the next guy up over Reese Poffenbarger behind Cam Ward, CaneSport’s Matt Shodell predicted. Williams played five games in 2023 with two starts, and he took over as the starter for Tyler Van Dyke before exiting that game with a season-ending arm injury. Poffenbarger played 15 games with Albany in 2023. Williams still has a redshirt to use if he appears in fewer than five games.

NC State ➡️ Grayson McCall is listed as the starter, followed by true freshman CJ Bailey Jr. and Lex Thomas. McCall started the first seven games with Coastal Carolina in 2023 before a concussion ended his season. The other two options have not appeared in a college game.

North Carolina ➡️ Barring an injury, Max Johnson will open as the starter, according to The News & Observer’s Chip Alexander. Johnson, Conner Harrell and Jacolby Criswell are competing for the starting spot during camp. Johnson played eight games with Texas A&M in 2023 and started five following Conner Weigman’s injury. Harrell played five games in 2023 and started the bowl game after Drake Maye opted out, and Criswell played four games as a reserve with Arkansas 2023.

Pitt ➡️ Eli Holstein will start with Nate Yarnell expected to play, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The two are co-starters with Ty Dieffenbach behind them. Yarnell played four games in 2023 and started the final two over Christian Veilleux and Phil Jurkovec. Holstein did not appear in a game with Alabama in 2023. Dieffenbach did not play last season.

SMU ➡️ Preston Stone is the starter, followed by Kevin Jennings and Keldric Luster. Stone played the majority of the Week 0 win over Nevada in his first game since a sesaon-ending broken fibula in 2023. Jennings rotated in for 15 snaps.

Stanford ➡️ Ashton Daniels, Justin Lamson and true freshman Elijah Brown are listed as starters. Daniels and Lamson played all 12 games last season with 10 starts for Daniels and two for Lamson.

Syracuse ➡️ Michael Johnson Jr. and Carlos Del Rio-Wilson are listed as co-backups behind Kyle McCord. Del Rio-Wilson played seven games in 2023 and started once with Garrett Shrader out with an injury. Johnson played 10 games as a reserve with Florida Atlantic last season.

Virginia ➡️ Anthony Colandrea is the starter, followed by Tony Muskett. HC Tony Elliott named Colandrea the starter last week after playing eight games with six starts last season. Muskett started all six games he was healthy for in 2023, battling through a shoulder injury.

Virginia Tech ➡️ Kyron Drones is the starter, followed by Collin Schlee. HC Brent Pry named Schlee the backup over Pop Watson last week. Schlee played seven games with UCLA last season and started twice. Drones played all 13 games in 2023 and took over as the starter over Grant Wilson for the final 11 matchups.

Wake Forest ➡️ Michael Kern will start, though Hank Bachmeier will play early, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The two are listed as co-starters, followed by Jeremy Hecklinski and Tyler Mizzell. Kern will get the fist two series, and this competition will continue into the season. Bachmeier played nine games with Louisiana Tech with eight starts in 2023, while Kern played four games last season and took over as the starter for the final two over Mitch Griffis.

Big 12

Arizona ➡️ Cole Tannenbaum is the backup to Noah Fifita. Tannenbaum played one game last season and had been competing with Brayden Dorman for the No. 2 spot.

Arizona State ➡️ Sam Leavitt is the starter, followed by Jeff Sims, Trenton Bourguet and true freshman Navi Bruzon. HC Kenny Dillingham named Leavitt the starter last week and said Sims and Bourguet were competing for the backup spot. Leavitt played four games as a reserve with Michigan State in 2023 before shutting things down to use a redshirt season. Bourguet played nine games with six starts last season, and Sims opened the 2023 season as Nebraska’s starter but lost his QB1 role following a Week 2 injury and played five games.

Baylor ➡️ Dequan Finn is the starter, followed by Sawyer Robertson and true freshman Nate Bennett. Finn was named the starter last week after starting every game for Toledo in 2023. Robertson played six games and started four due to Blake Shapen’s injuries last season.

BYU ➡️ HC Kalani Sitake said the starter will not be announced until game time, according to Deseret News’ Jay Drew. The two are listed as co-starters and took first-team reps during practice that was open to the media. Bohanon hasn’t played since an October 2022 labrum injury with USF, while Retzlaff started the final four games of 2023 with Kedon Slovis out with an injury.

Cincinnati ➡️ Brendan Sorsby is the starter, followed by Brady Lichtenberg and true freshman Samaj Jones. HC Scott Sattersfield named Sorsby the starter last week after playing 10 games at Indiana in 2023 and took over as the starter over Tayven Jackson with six total starts. Lichtenberg played seven games and split reps with Emory Jones late in 2023 with one start, which he exited with an injury.

Colorado ➡️ Ryan Staub has been pushed by Dominiq Ponder for the backup spot, according to Buff Stampede’s Adam Munsterteiger. A team source told me Staub was the clear backup this spring after playing three games with one start in 2023. Ponder played two games with Bethune-Cookman last season and spent this spring with Georgia Tech.

Houston ➡️ Donovan Smith is the starter, followed by Zeon Chriss. Smith underwent labrum surgery after starting all 12 games in 2023, and Chriss played eight games with Louisiana in 2023 and took over as the starter for six games before a season-ending leg injury.

Iowa State ➡️ Rocco Becht is listed as the starter, followed by JJ Kohl and true freshman Connor Moberly. Becht started all 13 games this season, while Kohl played three as a reserve in 2023.

Kansas ➡️ Cole Ballard is the backup over true freshman Isaiah Marshall behind Jalon Daniels. Ballard played four games in 2023 and started once with Daniels and Jason Bean out with injuries. HC Lance Leipold said Daniels is 100% last week after a lingering back injury limited him to three games last season.

Kansas State ➡️ Ta’Quan Roberson and Jacob Knuth are co-backups behind Avery Johnson. Roberson is likely the favorite after playing 11 games with UConn in 2023 and started the final 10 after Joe Fagnano suffered a season-ending injury. Knuth did not appear in a game in 2023.

Oklahoma State ➡️ Garret Rangel and Zane Flores are listed as co-backups behind Alan Bowman. Bowman started all 14 games in 2023, while Rangel appeared in five, and Flores did not see the field.

TCU ➡️ Josh Hoover is the starter, followed by Ken Seals and true freshman Hauss Hejny. Hoover underwent back surgery this offseason after playing 10 games in 2023 and took over as the starter over Chandler Morris. Seals played 10 games with Vanderbilt last season.

Texas Tech ➡️ Cameran Brown is listed as the backup to Behren Morton. Morton is recovered from a shoulder injury after playing 10 games with eight starts last season. Brown beat out Jake Strong and Will Hammond for the No. 2 role after playing nine games with West Georgia in 2023.

UCF ➡️ KJ Jefferson is the starter, followed by Jacurri Brown. Jefferson started all 12 games with Arkansas in 2023, while Brown started the bowl game with Miami in 2023 after Tyler Van Dyke opted out and Emory Williams was injured.

Utah ➡️ HC Kyle Whittingham said Brandon Rose would be the third-string QB right now, but Sam Huard is pushing for the No. 3 spot, according to Deseret News’ Joe Coles. Both are behind Cam Rising and Isaac Wilson in the two-deep, and Rose missed the 2023 season with an injury suffered during training camp. Huard played nine games with Cal Poly last season.

Pac-12

Oregon State ➡️ HC Trent Bray named Gevani McCoy is the starter, according to Salem Statesman Journal’s Jarrid Denney, and he’s followed by Ben Gulbranson, Gabarri Johnson, Dom Montiel and Jake Sanders on the depth chart. McCoy won the three-man competition after playing 12 games with Idaho State in 2023. Gulbranson played two games in 2023 and started the bowl game after DJ Uiagalelei and Aidan Chiles opted out. Johnson did not see the field with Missouri last season.

Washington State ➡️ John Mateer is the starter, followed by Zevi Eckhaus and Jaxon Potter. HC Jake Dickert named Mateer the starter last week after playing 11 games as a reserve last season. Eckhaus played 11 games with Bryant in 2023, and Potter did not play last season.

Independents

Notre Dame ➡️ Riley Leonard is the starter, followed by Steve Angeli. Leonard started all seven games he was healthy enough to play with Duke in 2023, battling toe and ankle injuries. He underwent two ankle surgeries this offseason but is fully healthy. Angeli played eight games and started the bowl game after Sam Hartman opted out. Kenny Minchey and true freshman CJ Carr split third-team reps during camp.

UConn ➡️ Nick Evers is the starter, followed by Joe Fagnano, Tucker McDonald and true freshman Cole Welliver. Evers did not appear in a game with Wisconsin in 2023, while Fagnano started the first two games before a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgery in September.

UMass ➡️ Taisun Phommachanh is the starter, followed by Ahmad Haston. Phommachanh started all nine games he was healthy for in 2023, and Haston appeared in three games last season.

AAC

Army ➡️ Bryson Daily is listed as the starter followed by Dewayne Coleman and Cale Hellums. Bryson Daily was named the starter this spring after starting every game he was healthy enough to play in 2023. Coleman played three games as a backup last season, and Hellums did not appear in a game.

Tulane ➡️ Darian Mensah will start with Ty Thompson and Kai Horton expected to play, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The three are listed as co-starters. Thompson played seven games with Oregon in 2023, while Horton played five with three starts when Michael Pratt was out with an injury or opted out. Mensah did not appear in a game last season.

USF ➡️ Bryce Archie and Israel Carter are co-backups to Byrum Brown. Archie played seven games as a reserve in 2023, while Carter appeared in one game last season. Brown started all 13 games last year.

Charlotte ➡️ Trexler Ivey and true freshman Deshawn Purdie are co-backups to Max Brown. Brown played six games with Florida in 2023 and started the bowl game. Ivey played 11 last season and split time with Jalon Jones.

East Carolina ➡️ HC Mike Houston named Jake Garcia the starter over Katin Houser, according to Hoist The Colours’ Stephen Igoe. Garcia did not appear in a game with Missouri in 2023, while Houser played 11 games with Michigan State and started the final seven.

Florida Atlantic ➡️ HC Tom Herman named Cam Fancher the starter, according to FAU Owls Nest. Fancher held a significant experience advantage over Tyriq Starks including starting 10 games with Marshall in 2023. Starks played one game last season.

Memphis ➡️ Harris Boyd is listed as the backup to Seth Henigan. Henigan started every game last season, and Boyd did not see the field.

Navy ➡️ Blake Horvath is listed as the starter, followed by Braxton Woodson and true freshman Robert “Tre” Jones III. Also, true freshman Dallas Dunn is no longer on the roster and left the team, a team source told me. Horvath played four games and took over as the starter for one before a season-ending injury in 2023, while Woodson played four games with one start.

North Texas ➡️ True freshmen Cash McCollum and Drew Mestemaker are listed as co-backups to Chandler Morris. Both appear to have beat out transfers Grant Tisdale and Carson Woods.

Rice ➡️ EJ Warner is the starter, followed by true freshman Drew Devillier. Warner started all 10 games he was available for with Temple in 2023.

Temple ➡️ Forrest Brock, Evan Simon and Tyler Douglas are listed as co-starters. Brock was named the starter, according to Owls Daily, after playing one game last season. Simon played one game with Rutgers in 2023, while Douglas did not see the field.

Tulsa ➡️ Kirk Francis is listed as the starter, followed by Cooper Legas and Cardell Williams. Last week, HC Kevin Lewis said Francis will start, but the other two will play. Francis played the final four games last season with two starts, while Legas played nine with seven starts for Utah State in 2023. Williams played nine games with four starts last season.

UAB ➡️ Jalen Kitna is listed as the backup to Jacob Zeno. Zeno started all 11 games he was healthy for last season. Kitna played four games with Florida in 2022 and was not on a roster last season (read more here).

UTSA ➡️ Owen McCown and Eddie Lee Marburger are listed as co-starters with Brandon Tennison as the No. 3 option. I still think this is McCown’s job after being the first QB to take the field in the spring game and played seven games in 2023 with a bowl start when Frank Harris was unavailable with an injury. Marburger played three games last season and started twice when Harris was out. Tennison apparently beat out Dematrius Davis after not playing a game in 2023.

Mountain West

Air Force ➡️ John Busha is the starter, followed by Quentin Hayes and Josh Johnson. Busha played four games as a reserve in 2023, while Hayes and Johnson have not appeared in a college football game.

Boise State ➡️ Maddux Madsen is the starter, followed by Malachi Nelson. Madsen played nine games in 2023 and took over as the starter over Taylen Green but suffered a season-ending leg injury in his lone start, which required surgery in November. Nelson played one game at USC last season.

Colorado State ➡️ Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi is the starter, followed by Jackson Brousseau. Fowler-Nicolosi took over for Clay Millen as the starter after the 2023 season opener and started every game the rest of the way. Brousseau played one game as a reserve last season.

Fresno State ➡️ Jayden Manda and Joshua Wood are co-backups behind Mikey Keene. OC Pat McCann previously said both may play if Keene was out due to their different styles of play. Neither player appeared in a game in 2023.

Hawaii ➡️ HC Timmy Chang named John Keawe-Sagapolutele the backup, according to Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Stephen Tsai. He did not play a snap last season but will be the top option if Brayden Schager suffers an injury. Schager is listed as the starter with Sagapolutele as the backup.

Nevada ➡️ Chubba Purdy will miss his second consecutive game with a shoulder injury, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Brendon Lewis will start again with AJ Bianco as the backup. Purdy had been competing for a spot in the two-deep this offseason, so it’ll be interesting to see where he lands on the depth chart in his return. He’s been cleared to start throwing in practice and is expected to be available in Week 2 and be full go for Week 3.

New Mexico ➡️ Devon Dampier is the starter with Isaiah Chavez, James Laubstein and Emery Floyd as co-backups. Dampier played every snap in the Week 0 loss to Montana State.

San Diego State ➡️ AJ Duffy and Javance Tupouata-Johnson are co-backups behind true freshman starter Danny O’Neil. Duffy played one game at QB with Florida State in 2023, and Tupouata-Johnson did not see the field last season.

San Jose State ➡️ Emmett Brown will start, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Brown and Walker Eget are co-starters on the depth chart. HC Ken Niumatalolo said they were the frontrunners earlier this week with Xavier Ward not far behind. Eget did not appear in a game in 2023, and Brown played one with Washington State last season.

UNLV ➡️ Matthew Sluka, Hajj-Malik Williams and Cameron Friel are listed as starters. A few days ago, HC Barry Odom said he’s still deciding on a starter. Sluka played 11 games with Holy Cross in 2023. Williams played 11 games with Campbell in 2023, and Friel played one game as a reserve last season.

Wyoming ➡️ Jayden Clemons and Kaden Anderson are listed as co-backups behind Evan Svoboda. Clemons played one game in 2023, while Anderson did not play.

Sun Belt

Appalachian State ➡️ Joey Aguilar is the starter, followed by Billy Wiles. Aguilar took over after Ryan Burger’s injury in the 2023 season opener, and Wiles played 11 games and started the first 10 with Southern Miss in 2023 before losing his starting spot.

Arkansas State ➡️ Jaylen Raynor is the starter, followed by Timmy McClain. Raynor played 11 games and started the final 10 in 2023, while McClain appeared in seven games with UCF in 2023 and started three due to John Rhys Plumlee’s injury.

Coastal Carolina ➡️ Ethan Vasko and Noah Kim are co-starters. Vasko played eight games with four starts in 2023, while Kim started the first five with Michigan State before losing his QB1 role.

Georgia Southern ➡️ JC French was named the starter over David Dallas and Dexter Williams II, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. French played 10 games as a reserve behind Davis Brin in 2023. Dallas miss last season with a shoulder injury, and Williams did not play with Indiana last year and was unavailable till mid-season due to a knee injury suffered during the 2023 season.

James Madison ➡️ Dylan Morris and Alonza Barnett III are co-starters. Morris played four games with Washington as a reserve in 2023, while Barnett started the season opener in 2023 before losing his starting spot to Jordan McCloud. Billy Atkins was also competing for the top spot during camp.

Louisiana ➡️ Ben Wooldridge is the starter, followed by Chandler Fields and true freshman Daniel Beale. HC Michael Desormeaux named Wooldridge the starter over Fields last week. Wooldridge started the first three games in 2023 before a season-ending foot injury. Fields played seven games and started the final four last season after injuries to Wooldridge and Zeon Chriss. Beale had been competing D’Wanye’ Winfield, who dealt an arm injury during camp.

Louisiana-Monroe ➡️ General Booty is listed as the starter ahead of Aidan Armenta. Booty played one game as a reserve at Oklahoma last season, while Armenta did not appear in a game with New Mexico in 2023. They beat out Reese Mooney and Hunter Herring for spots in the two-deep.

Marshall ➡️ Braylon Braxton, Stone Earle and Cole Pennington are co-starters. Braxton played six games at Tulsa in 2023 and started five, battling multiple injuries. Pennington played four games with three starts when Cam Fancher was out with injuries in 2023. Earle left North Texas in June after playing four games at quarterback with the Mean Green and opened the season as the starter.

Old Dominion ➡️ HC Ricky Rahne named Grant Wilson the starter over Emmett Morehead and Colton Joseph, according to The Virginia-Pilot’s David Hall. Wilson played 12 games in 2023 and briefly lost his starting spot to Jack Shields but started 11 total games. Morehead started the season opener with Boston College in 2023 but lost his starting spot to Thomas Castellanos and played four games total, and Joseph did not appear in a game last season.

South Alabama ➡️ Gio Gonzalez is listed as the starter ahead of Bishop Davenport. Lopez had already been named the starter after playing five games in 2023 with one start when Carter Bradley was out with an injury. Davenport did not appear in a game last season, and true freshman Jared Hollins is likely the No. 3 option.

Southern Miss ➡️ Tate Rodemaker and Ethan Crawford are listed as starters with true freshman John White in the No. 3 spot. This follows a report from last week that Rodemaker is expected to start, so let’s go with him as the favorite after playing nine games with Florida State in 2023 and started one after Jordan Travis’ injury. Crawford played six games last season and took over for Billy Wiles as the starter for the final two.

Texas State ➡️ Jordan McCloud is the starter, followed by RJ Martinez, PJ Hatter and true freshman Brad Jackson. McCloud played 13 games with James Madison in 2023 and took over for Alonza Barnett as the starter for the final 12. Martinez played three games as a reserve with Baylor last season.

Troy ➡️ Tucker Kilcrease and Matthew Caldwell are listed as co-backups behind Goose Crowder. Kilcrease did not appear in a game last season, while Caldwell played six games with Gardner-Webb in 2023.

MAC

Akron ➡️ Ben Finley is the starter followed by Tahj Bullock. Finley played seven games with two starts for Cal in 2023, and Bullock started two games and played in 10 with a regular role as a rushing threat last season.

Ball State ➡️ HC Mike Neu confirmed to Hustle Belt that Kadin Semonza is the starter instead of Kiael Kelly, who’ll likely see consistent duty on both sides of the ball but will not be a regular part of the QB room, a team source told me in early June. Semonza played the first four games with three starts in 2023 before shutting things down to use a redshirt season.

Bowling Green ➡️ Connor Bazelak is the starter ahead of Camden Orth. Both players missed spring practice recovering from injuries this but are expected to be ready to go. Bazelak started all 11 games he was available for last season, and Orth played 12 games with two starts when Bazelak was injured.

Buffalo ➡️ Jack Shields and Gunnar Gray are co-backups behind CJ Ogbonna. Ogbonna was named the starter last week, and Shields played six games with Old Dominion last season and took over as the starter for two games over Grant Wilson. Gray did not play in 2023.

Central Michigan ➡️ Joe Labas is the starter after competing with Bert Emanuel Jr., who’s not listed on the depth chart due to injury, according to 9&10 News’ Jayden Jagtiani. In July, HC HC Jim McElwain said Emanuel held a slight edge over Labas, and it’s unclear how long Emanuel will be out or if he’s still in the mix to start when healthy. Labas did not play with Iowa in 2023, and Emanuel opened last season as the starter but missed time with an injury before returning to a limited role behind Jase Bauer with six total games. Tyler Jefferson is the current backup after playing one game in 2023, followed by true freshman Jadyn Glasser.

Eastern Michigan ➡️ Cole Snyder is the starter, followed by Jeremiah Salem. Snyder started all 12 games at Buffalo in 2023, and Salem did not play last season.

Kent State ➡️ Devin Kargman and Tommy Ulatowski are co-starters despite ESPN’s Pete Thamel reporting Kargman was named the starter during camp. Kargman played three games in 2023 with one start due to injuries to Ulatowski and Michael Alaimo. Ulatowski played nine games last season and took over as the starter for three games over Alaimo before suffering an injury.

Miami (OH) ➡️ Brett Gabbert is the starter, followed by Henry Hesson and Maddox Kopp. According to The AP’s Michael Marot on Aug. 14, Gabbert is almost completely healed. In July, HC Chuck Martin said he’s not 100% and hopes Gabbert will be available for the season opener. He started the first eight games in 2023 before a season-ending leg injury that required surgery on Oct. 23, 2023. Hesson played two games in 2023 and started the bowl game with Gabbert injured and Aveon Smith in the transfer portal. Kopp played one game last season.

Northern Illinois ➡️ Ethan Hampton and Jalen Macon are co-starters. Josh Holst is no longer in the race, and Hammock previously added the team already knows who will start but will not reveal QB1 publicly. Hampton played four games as a reserve in 2023, and Macon played seven games with Arkansas Pine Bluff last season.

Toledo ➡️ Tucker Gleason is listed as the starter ahead of John Alan Richter. Gleason played four games at QB in 2023 and started the bowl game after Dequan Finn opted out. Richter played one game as a reserve last season.

Western Michigan ➡️ Hayden Wolff is the starter, followed by Broc Lowry. Wolff played eight games in 2023 and took over as the starter for the final five. Lowry played one game at quarterback with Indiana last season.

Conference USA

FIU ➡️ OC David Yost said Haden Carlson, Chayden Peery and Amari Jones have been getting second- and third-team reps with Clayton Dees behind them, according to G5 Football Daily’s Kevin Barral. Jones could be well on his way to winning the backup spot after missing all of last season with an Achilles injury, according to the article. Carlson played three games as a reserve in 2023, and Peery did not appear in a game.

Jacksonville State ➡️ Logan Smothers, Tyler Huff and Zion Turner are co-starters. This comes a few days after HC Rich Rodriguez announced Smothers and Huff as co-starters. Huff played 11 games at Furman in 2023, while Smothers played 12 games with five starts in 2023 and rotated with Zion Webb for much of the season, battling injuries. Turner played two games with UConn last season.

Kennesaw State ➡️ Kennesaw State QB Davis Bryson is listed as the starter with Khalib Johnson as the backup. Bryson played four games as a reserve in 2023, and Johnson played seven with Blinn (Juco) last season.

Liberty ➡️ Kaidon Salter is listed as the starter, followed by Ryan Burger and Nate Hampton. Salter started all 14 games last season, and Burger opened 2023 as the Appalachian State starter but suffered a finger injury and did not play another game. Hampton played two games last season.

Louisiana Tech ➡️ Jack Turner is the starter, followed by Blake Baker and Evan Bullock. Turner played eight games in 2023 and started four when Hank Bachmeier was out with an injury. Baker did not appear in a game last season, while Bullock played one game.

Middle Tennessee ➡️ Xavier Williams and true freshman Roman Gagliano are co-backups behind Nicholas Vattiato. Williams did not play with UCF last season after moving to safety, and Vattiato started all 12 games in 2023.

New Mexico State ➡️ HC Tony Sanchez named Parker Awad the starter over Deuce Hogan, according to Las Cruces Sun-News’ Nick Coppola. Awad played 11 games at Golden West (Juco) in 2023, while Hogan did not see the field with Kentucky last season.

Sam Houston State ➡️ Grant Gunnell, Hunter Watson and Jase Bauer are co-starters. Bauer played all 12 games with Central Michigan in 2023 and took over as the starter for the final nine. Watson played 13 games with Iowa Western (Juco) in 2023, and Gunnell started one game last season.

UTEP ➡️ Skyler Locklear will start oveer Cade McConnell, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. McConnell played seven games in 2023 and started the final six after an injury to Gavin Hardison. Locklear played two games with Austin Peay in 2023 and followed Walden to UTEP.

Western Kentucky ➡️ HC Tyson Helton named TJ Finley the starter and said expect to see Caden Veltkamp, according to The Extra Point WKU’s Cole McIntire. Finley started 13 games with Texas State in 2023, while Veltkamp appeared in three contests last season.

Eligibility Notes

• *Redshirt is still available to use. Players with a redshirt available may play up to four games in a season without it counting toward a year of eligibility. Army, Navy and Air Force do not allow redshirting.

• The NCAA approved a blanket waiver for the 2024-25 season that states conference championships, bowls and College Football Playoff games do not count toward the four-game limit.
